With a third place in Rockanje this weekend Stefan Vreugdenhil showed he is in shape for the National Championships beachrace in two weeks. Together with his teammate Ramses Bekkenk he was part of the first leading group and in the final Vreugdenhil and Bekkenk managed to escape with later winner Robbert de Nijs, André van Reek and Frenchman Benoit Daeninck.
‘We worked well together with our group and with a comfortable lead we rode to the finish line. Unfortunately the finish was not completely clear indicated and we had to change route just before the finish line. I ended up in the loose sand, lost speed and in a last attempt to catch up with de Nijs I gave everything but it was not enough.’, stated Vreugdenhil. Teammate Bekkenk finished at 5th place.
For Karen Brouwer and Gerben Mos there was Cross Country race on their program in Steenwijk. Brouwer took the victory and Mos finished second behind winner Thom Bonder. Next weekend Brouwer and Mos will start in Andalucia Bike race in Spain. Brouwer managed to finish second in this stage race over six days last year.
