The Drenthe municipality of Aa and Hunze today received a large peloton of mountain bikers during the Hondsrug Classic. During this race, the participants travel two rounds of thirty kilometers through the beautiful forests and over the mountain bike course at ‘t Nije Hemelriek. After sixty kilometers, Frits Biesterbos was too fast in the Sprint. Both men had driven away on a single track from the leading group of Eleven Man and quickly built their lead, where Biesterbos took the most work.
“On one of the single tracks, Frits opened the” throttle “and I managed to drive away with him. However, with Tim Smeenge and Gerben Mos I still had two strong teammates with the pursuers so I did not refurbish too much headwork, partly because my sprint is not very strong. Towards the end the pace dropped a bit and I went on the sprint a little too early. Frits came over and unfortunately I was beaten, “says Ruijter. Behind Biesterbos, Menno Don sprinted to the bronze by keeping Ruben Nederveen and Tim Smeenge behind. With the ladies, Lola Bakker Solo rode to the victory for Rozanne Slik and Marlies Vos.
