For the fourth time in a row Karen Brouwer took the podium at the National Championships marathon this weekend. On the fast track in Drenthe region Sophie van Berswordt and Laura van Regenmortel were outstanding. Teammate Gerben Mos was part of the leading group in the men Elite race. With only three kilometers to go Mos reached his imit and finished at 8th position. Bram Rood crossed the line at 14th place. Tim Smeenge was unfortunately not feeling fit and abandoned the race which was won by Lars Boom.
‘I knew this fast course here in Gasselte was not suited for me and besides Sophie is really strong at the moment. Early in the race I already had to let her and Laura go and tried to find my own pace. Riding together with Monique Zeldenrust I had some support as well. Now it’s time to recover and train as we travel to South Africa in two weeks where I will do the duorace Cape Pioneer Trek together with German Cemile Trommer!’, stated Brouwer.
