Bram Rood and Gerben Mos were beaten in the sprint today and thereby missed their first stage win in Cape Pioneer Trek. After they finished third in the Time Trial yesterday this time a second place for both KMC-Fruit to Go riders who managed to catch up with leaders Alan Hatherley/Matthew Beers and Nico Bell/Gawie Combrinck halfway the race. Teammembers Karen Brouwer and Ramses Bekkenk had a tough day and finished fourth after a third place in the Time Trial yesterday. Brouwer/Bekkenk are still ranked at second place in general classification as Mos and Rood are ranked at third place.
‘Starting in George both leading duo’s escaped on the Montague Pass but the gap was never that big. In the Klein Karoo we managed to catch them but after a while we had to let them go. After the last feed zone we joined up again with the leaders. Unfortunately I made a small crash with two kilometers to go but managed to get back. At a last pass through a fence Matthew Beers managed to overtake Gerben and the stage win was gone. Really a shame but there a still two chances left.’, stated Rood.
