Bas Luca de Vries, originally from Kollum, is making the switch to the KMC mountainbiketeam with immediate effect. The 24-year-old de Vries impressed this season with his second place in the mountain bike marathon Roc d’Ardenne in Houffalize, Belgium, and he recently finished sixth in Willingen, Germany. “Last weekend, Bas Luca showed that he also feels at home on the gravel bike with a fourteenth place in the UCI Gravel race in Aachen. We like to have riders in the team who enjoy practicing multiple disciplines of cycling and who are not afraid of a bit of mud,” says team manager Martin Schuttert.
“I am looking forward to making my debut in the KMC shirt this weekend in the Ardennes Trophy in La Reid, Belgium. In mountain biking you are often on your own, but it is nice to have the support of a team with equipment and knowledge. There are also quite a few nice multi-day races that you have to ride as a duo. Last year I was able to ride the Transalp with Teus Ruijter as a guest rider at KMC. We finished ninth and it was my first introduction to riding in the mountains. That adventure was a good one!”, according to de Vries.
