Last weekend, Paul Häuser managed to win the Eager Beaver mountain bike marathon in Mulmur, Canada. ‘The race covered 65 kilometers and 800 meters of elevation gain, consisting almost entirely of trails. It wasn’t too technical, but there were a lot of turns in the course. I quickly found myself riding at the front with local Alex McDonald, but I couldn’t really drop him in the first lap because he has an XCO background.
‘In the second lap, I felt more confident, knowing what to expect. I also knew I had to drop him in the first half of the lap, because there was no more climbing to be done in the second part. That is why I maintained a consistently high pace with a few accelerations on the climbs. That way, I was able to drop him and ride solo to the finish,’ said Häuser, who has been working in Toronto, Canada, since this winter.
