The dune area at Klein Vaarwater on Ameland was the setting for a mountain bike race on Saturday afternoon, in which more than two kilometers were ridden over the beach at Buren. Rozanne Slik and Gerben Mos both finished solo, with Mos engaged in an exciting battle with Bram Imming throughout the entire race.
From the start it was Gerben Mos who took the lead a short distance followed by Imming. At the beach both men came together and going into the last of four laps Mos and Imming were still together. “Because I had the idea that I rode easier through the dunes, I accelerated there on the last lap and managed to cut a gap on Bram. On the beach he came back a bit, but in the end I had almost a minute lead at the finish.’, says Mos. Teammate Martin Schuttert completed the podium after 32 kilometers by finishing third. Rozanne Slik rode her own race in the ladies and after a good start took the victory solo with a large lead and also managed to leave many men behind.
