After his victory at the Dutch Marathon Championships in Gasselte last week, Smeenge managed to win again today. After more than a hundred kilometers he crossed the finish line in Olsberg, Germany, with a large lead. Smeenge pulled away early in the race and managed to expand his lead on the tough course. The rain of the past week had turned the surface into a mud bath and Smeenge crossed the finish line unrecognizable. Aaron Wilhemi and compatriot Stijn Appel came in second and third in quick succession.
