The second race of the NL Gravel series took place today during Cycling Zandvoort. On and around the circuit where fast cars normally dominate the scene, there were now six fast women who formed a leading group and fought for victory. Ultimately it was Tessa Neefjes who decided the sprint in her favor, followed by Marjet Groen and Mariëlle Trouwborst.
“Yesterday I rode the National Championships for Elite women without a contract on the road and so I had to wait and see how things would go today. After a crash I lost contact with the other women and ended up riding alone. Fortunately, my legs were good and I managed to catch up with the leaders again. I was not well positioned in the sprint, so third place was the highest possible.”, said Trouwborst, who is now also in the lead in the NL Gravel series rankings.
