The Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships took place on Saturday in San Martino di Castrozza, Italy. Representing KMC, Teus Ruijter and Lola Bakker lined up for this grueling race, which covered 95 kilometers and involved 4,000 meters of elevation gain. While Teus had already competed in various world championships, this marked Lola’s debut.
Teus did not get off to a good start but managed to work his way steadily up the field during the five-hour race. He ultimately finished in 38th place, behind the German winner Andreas Seewald. For Lola, the race was a journey of discovery; competing against the world’s elite on a course with significant elevation gain is no easy task when you aren’t a natural climber. She finished in 32nd place, behind the winner, Anna Weinbeer.
