Mariëlle Trouwborst had a good start today in the Veldslag om Norg, where she quickly took the lead with Sera Gademan. With a line of men in their wheel, both ladies rode through the Drenthe countryside over a surface of alternating cobblestones, shell paths, meadows, forests and sandy paths. With about 25 kilometers to go in the 100-kilometer race, Trouwborst saw that Gademan was in a gap when exiting a forest.
“On the road I then rode hard for a while and in the subsequent soft sand strip I saw that I was increasing my lead. However, I was alone with one man in my wheel who could not take over while Sera was riding in a large group with men in the lead, so I was not yet reassured that the victory was in secured. In the end I gradually increased my lead to a comfortable lead. It was great to win this race on my first participation,” said Trouwborst. Petra Sweertman managed to secure the last podium spot.
