Mariëlle Trouwborst takes third place in Amerongen

Last Sunday in Amerongen, third place was the best Mariëlle Trouwborst could achieve. Although she had won the 90-kilometer mountain bike marathon convincingly last year, this time she started the race already playing catch-up. “During the warm-up, I slid out and fell hard on my knee; it was left with an open wound and was quite swollen. I was bothered by it during the race, so unfortunately I couldn’t push to the max and had to give up the lead early on.”

“Hopefully, everything will have healed in time for the Dutch Marathon Championship taking place in Valkenburg next week,” said Trouwborst. The race was won by Cindy Volkerink, ahead of Sabriena Stultiens. In the men’s race, Gerben Mos had a good day and finished eighth. Unfortunately, Bas Luca de Vries was unable to finish the race after a crash.
