Mariëlle Trouwborst finished second today at the National Beach Race Championships in Rockanje, South Holland. After 72 kilometers, Puck Pinxt outsprinted her. Her second-place finish secured her overall victory in the KNWU Beachrace competition. The pace was high from the start, and the turning points and passage through the finish line ultimately left Trouwborst and Pinxt in the battle for the red, white, and blue jersey.
“I felt good today and was always right there with the pack. Whenever a gap opened up, I was able to close it easily. Initially, Tessa Neefjes and Silje Bader, who finished third, were also up front, but in the end, Puck and I were left with a few other riders. We then agreed to do our own sprint, but after Puck refused to take over, the men overtook us again. The sprint went very poorly for me, and that unfortunately meant second place,” said Trouwborst. Lola Bakker and Rozanne Slik finished sixth and seventh.
