The Dutch riders Hans Becking and Teus Ruijter will start as a duo in Meerendal tomorrow for the prologue of the Absa Cape Epic. Their trainer, Björn Kafka, sparked the idea that they could form a great pair. Becking, an experienced man, alongside Ruijter, who manages to make progress year after year in mountain bike marathon races. Becking and Ruijter are looking forward to the biggest mountain bike event in the world, in which they have both participated several times. Almost 700 kilometers and 16,000 meters of elevation gain through the Western Cape await the men.
“For me, riding with Hans is a dream come true. He has already won stages in the Cape Epic and is a multiple Dutch Champion. Achievements I hope to reach myself someday, so I can learn a lot from Hans in the coming days,” said Ruijter.
“My shape has been good in recent weeks and I saw Teus riding strongly in a few Spanish marathon races. So when our trainer Björn came up with the idea of riding the Cape Epic together, I was immediately enthusiastic. We managed to arrange everything at the last minute so we could start together,” said Becking.
