Lola Bakker wins the SKS mountain bike marathon in Sundern

In Sundern, Germany, Lola Bakker rode solo to victory on Sunday. From the start, Bakker was forced to chase due to a mechanical issue. By riding at her own pace, she steadily moved up the field. “It’s great to win this classic German marathon, which has been around for over 30 years. Now on to Willingen in Germany, where another beautiful classic marathon is on the schedule at the end of May,” said Bakker.

Teammate Bas Luca de Vries had an off day. After initially riding at the front, he dropped back to tenth place. Through sheer determination, he managed to fight his way back to the front but narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish. De Vries: “Time to take a little rest so I’m ready for the UCI gravel race Marly Grav on May 10.”
