Rozanne Slik got off to a good start today in the Veldslag om Norg, where she quickly took the lead with the later winner Tessa Neefjes. Unfortunately, she couldn’t keep up the high pace of the group between the male riders and was left alone for a while. Catching up with a trailing group, the pace went up again, but the number three Petra Sweertman had joined her in the meantime. In the final, Slik made good use of her course knowledge and managed to pull away to secure the silver medal after 100 kilometers.
Slik’s KMC teammates Gerben Mos and Ramses Bekkenk were initially part of a large group of twelve men who rode right behind leader Jasper Ockeloen. Bekkenk was the first one dropped and after the group had been reduced to eight men, Mos also lost contact with his fellow escapees. Ockeloen had meanwhile been overtaken by Thom Bonder, Lars van Ark and Bart Kortleve with Lennart van Houwelingen and Jelle-Wietse Jongedijk riding shortly behind. Mos had meanwhile recovered and joined a strong group that also included ‘diesel’ Ramses Bekkenk. Working well together with Bram Imming and Maarten Vierhout, Mos managed to get away in the final and to catch up with Jongedijk and finish sixth. Bekkenk came in fourteenth shortly after. Winner Ockeloen settled in the sprint with his fellow escapees.
