Gerben Mos and Robbert de Nijs unfortunately did not reach the finish in Italian Arco as a duo. A strong sixth stage brought the KMC-Intal duo an eight place but in the last stage a branch spoiled the party.
‘On Friday we had a tough stage from Pellizzano to Roncone over almost 80 kilometers and 2800 altimeters. The weather was changing from time to time with some rain in between and on the top it was chilly. Despite we rode a strong race finishing at 8th place that day. Just after our arrival there was a pouring rain.’, stated Mos.
De Nijs: ‘The heavy rain fall made the last stage to Arco a tough one to ride. Unfortunately our stage was over very soon when a branch came in my rear derailleur which could not be repaired any more. The first tech zone was to far to walk and Gerben continued solo to the finish line in Arco. A real disappointment after a strong week of racing.’
Markus Kaufmann and Jochen Kaess took the last stage and also secured their fourth Bike TransAlp overall victory.
