Bram Rood and Gerben Mos finished a special race in South Africa today. Starting in the south of Johannesburg and finishing nine days later at Scottburgh on the KwaZulu-Natal coast. Part race part adventure, the Old Mutual joBerg2c takes competitors through the country, from the heat and dust of the big city to the cool crisp air of the sea via spectacular mountainous passes.
“In the first five stages we were competitive and we almost won the third stage. I continued as a solo rider after Gerben abandoned the race in the fifth stage and joined him again as Gerben was allowed to race again after two days of recovery. Characteristic for this race where It is all about racing, riding and touring across this magnificent country. Partly on trails that have never been ridden before. The race is possible as it uses a community-driven formula along the way. The race uplifts communities and gives them a way to raise money for their schools, churches and charities. Every organisation who works on the Old Mutual joBerg2c is being paid for their work. Despite Gerben his illness which made him pull of the race we had a great time here at Joberg2c ”, Stated Rood.
