Karen surprised herself, though the team had been confident all along, with a great second place. She finished behind Laura Turpijn in the mountainbike race around the Baggelhuizerplas in Assen.
“My start of the season was not without difficulty, followed by some ups and downs in racing. Therefore I have been focussing on my training lately, paying less attention to the races. Today I started in the back, but I joined the leading group right away and found a good rhythm for this beautiful and challenging course. By the end it was quite a struggle, but my second place was safe and a first place was out of reach”, says a satisfied Brouwer.
