The Drenthe 200 started yesterday morning on a renewed course of still two hundred kilometers. A leading group of nine men quickly formed from which Tim Smeenge, Bas Luca de Vries and Gerben Mos managed to escape on the way to Westerbork. After the VAM mountain the chasing group was completely broken up but everything came together again and seven men went on their way to Dwingeloo. The pace dropped for a while but on the way to Grolloo Rick Ottema pushed the pedals hard and only Smeenge could follow. In the forest near Gieten, however, Smeenge also had to let Ottema go.
Behind Smeenge, Adne Koster and Teus Ruijter fought solo for the last podium spot while Gerben Mos and Björn Koster rode in fifth and sixth place. Meanwhile, Smeenge had had his best time and together with Adne Kosten he rode to the finish to finish third behind winner Rick Ottema. Mos caught up with his teammate Ruijter in the final and together they finished fourth and fifth in Norg. For Smeenge, the Drenthe 200 was his last race for the KMC team and he said goodbye in style with a great podium place.
