Third place for Mariëlle Trouwborst in the Drenthe 200 mountain bike marathon

In her debut in the Drenthe200, Mariëlle Trouwborst finished third behind winner Nina Kessler. Together with Puck Pinxt, Trouwborst and Kessler quickly formed the front of the women’s race after the start in Norg. Trouwborst struggled in the dark, and after a steering error, she saw Pinxt and Kessler disappear into the night after just 40 kilometers of racing. With occasional support from a male competitor, she managed to hold on to her third place until Norg. At the front of the race, Pinxt experienced mechanical problems and had to let Kessler go, who was then the first to return to Norg after 200 kilometers.

In the men’s race, a large leading group quickly formed, including KMC Bas’s Luca de Vries, Teus Ruijter, and Gerben Mos. The 2024 winner Rick Ottema was also in the leading group. Unfortunately, Mos dropped out of the leading group after a heavy crash, but was able to continue after some recovery work on his bike. At the front, the pace slowed at times, and the eleven-man group only thinned out after a good 150 kilometers. The final blow was the mountain bike route of Gieten, which was incorporated into the course. Ultimately, six riders were left to sprint for the win. Ottema took the win ahead of Adne Koster, Jelle-Wietse Jongendijk, Bart Kortleve, Teus Ruijter, and Lars van Ark. De Vries finished seventh, Mos fifteenth, and Paul Häuser fiftieth.
