Mariëlle Trouwborst ran a fast time of 1:20:18 in the combined classification on Sunday in the Egmond half marathon. On Saturday, she was in contention for victory in the mountain bike beachrace but fell short of a podium finish in the sprint on the Egmond boulevard. However, her seventh-place finish laid a solid foundation for defending her title in the combined classification.
“Yesterday, I had a bad start in the beachrace and therefore initially missed the lead group. I had to put in a lot of effort to rejoin them. I lacked energy in the final, when we had to sprint for victory with eight women. Fortunately, I recovered well today, and the run went very well. It’s great to take my fourth consecutive combined classification victory in Egmond,” said Trouwborst.
