Today in Peize, Drenthe, Mariëlle Trouwborst finished second in the 150 kilometer GravelOneFifty race that is part of the UCI Gravel World Series. Only Thalita de Jong was just a little too strong for Trouwborst in the final. Wendy Oosterwoud completed the podium by finishing third after more than five hours of competition.
“The rain in the days leading up to the race made it a tough race and that suits me. It was now more every woman for himself instead of a tactical race. I first took the lead with Tessa Neefjes, with a few ladies shortly behind us. Tessa dropped out of the front and in the meantime I formed the ‘leading group’ with Thalita de Jong. With twenty kilometers to go I made a slide, lost the connection with Thalita and was unable to close the gap to her,” said a satisfied Trouwborst afterwards.
Among the Elite men, Gerben Mos crossed the line in 22nd place behind the English winner Thomas Mein and thus also qualified for the World Championships gravel.
