The mountain bike marathon in Willingen, Germany, is considered a classic, and Mariëlle Trouwborst managed to claim the victory today. On the first climb, she opened up a gap with her rivals and managed to steadily extend her lead throughout the race. “The sport of mountain bike marathons is new to me and my technique still needs some fine-tuning, but going uphill today felt really good.” Teammate Lola Bakker secured second place, just like last year.
In the men’s race, Teus Ruijter matched Bakker’s performance by finishing second behind the German winner, Aron Wilhelmi. Wilhelmi opened up a gap in the first lap with a fast start, and Ruijter was unable to close the gap on the 110-kilometer course. “Aron started very fast and I couldn’t keep up with him. Even though I wasn’t having a great day, I managed to maintain a good pace. Peter Hermann finished third.”
