Mariëlle Trouwborst wins on Zandvoort beach, Rozanne Slik third

The MTB beach race in Zandvoort took place today in wintry conditions. The race started with a southerly loop towards the turnaround point in front of the Noordvoort nature reserve. From there, it was full throttle to the northern turnaround point. Mariëlle Trouwborst was unbeatable in the women’s race. The Zoetermeer native broke away from the other women at the first turnaround point, and her leading position was never threatened.

“After the first turnaround point, we had the wind at our backs, and I really accelerated. Then I dropped back into a chasing group because it was going a bit too fast. As the only woman in the group, I was able to keep up and take the win relatively easily,” said Trouwborst. Demi de Jong finished second, ahead of Trouwborst’s KMC teammate Rozanne Slik. Bas Luca de Vries finished sixth, behind winner Menno Don.
