In Drenthe, Mariëlle Trouwborst won the Battle of Norg for the second time today. After approximately 57 kilometers, she broke away from the leading group on the loose sandy sections below Norg and quickly extended her lead to over a minute. Faster riders following behind brought Elisa Serné on their wheel, allowing her to close in on Trouwborst. On the singletrack in Norg, Trouwborst once again demonstrated her strength today, crossing the finish line solo after over a hundred kilometers. Serné finished second, over a minute and a half later, followed by Maaike Nijland.
In the men’s race, teammate Bas-Luca de Vries was in the leading group alongside familiar names such as three-time winner Jasper Ockeloen, Tijmen Eising, Rick Ottema, Lars van Ark, and Frits Biesterbos. Several attempts were made to break away, but no one really managed to break away. Ultimately, the quintet of de Vries, Ottema, Eising, van Ark, and Biesterbos battled for victory in the woods around Norg. De Vries seemed poised to take the win, but was overtaken by van Ark in the final corner. Ottema completed the podium.
