Mosselbay in South Africa was guest for the prologue of Cape Pioneer Trek today. From the start it goes up town through the streets and ends in a great singletrack downhill to the Lighthouse with view on the Indian Ocean. From that point on there are some steep switchbacks back to the coastline where to riders face some ‘flat’ kilometers along the beach, railway and a park.
Karen Brouwer has partnered up with German Cemile Trommer for this seven days stage race and had a good start finishing second behind duo Halbwachs-Vorster from Mauritius-Namibia. ‘From the start we found the right pace and took the lead in the technical sections and Cemile in the more flat and fast sections.’, stated Brouwer. Mos and Smeenge were also satisfied with their fifth place as this short work is not their favourite job. Victory was for South African-Danish duo Alan Hatherley and Simon Andreassen.
