The KMC-Fruit to Go team was present in German village Zierenberg this weekend for a marathon race over 84 kilometers. The weather circumstances were perfect and at ten o’clock the race started with Tim Smeenge and Gerben Mos immediate riding in the leading group. Smeenge managed to answer an acceleration of the German rider Julian Stumpf as Mos could not follow at that moment.
‘The first lap Stumpf was quite strong but I saw his pace went down in lap two and three. Halfway the third lap I managed to get rid of him on a steep climb as I didn’t want to wait for a sprint.’, stated Smeenge. Mos also managed to get lost of his rivals and passed the finish line at third place behind Stumpf. In the woman’s race it was teammate Karen Brouwer who led from start to finish. Riding the long distance she also booked the fastest time in the mid distance! One weekend before Brouwer also won in Germany when she was the fastest in the 109 kilometers long marathon in Grafshaft.
