On the first climb, she opened up a gap with her rivals and managed to steadily extend her lead throughout the race. \u201cThe sport of mountain bike marathons is new to me and my technique still needs some fine-tuning, but going uphill today felt really good.\u201d Teammate Lola Bakker secured second place, just like last year.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s race, Teus Ruijter matched Bakker&#8217;s performance by finishing second behind the German winner, Aron Wilhelmi. Wilhelmi opened up a gap in the first lap with a fast start, and Ruijter was unable to close the gap on the 110-kilometer course. \u201cAron started very fast and I couldn&#8217;t keep up with him. Even though I wasn&#8217;t having a great day, I managed to maintain a good pace.
